SYMBIOSIS: CREATIVE EXCHANGE BETWEEN KATE & JONATHAN MESS

July 22 - September 3, 2017
Opening Reception: July 22, 2017, 5-7 PM

Artist couple Kate & Jonathan Mess will present Symbiosis, an exploration of the similarities and differences in their work and the way their practices intertwine, at The Good Supply in Pemaquid. Though their studio endeavors have been closely linked since they met in graduate school in 2006, this is the couple's first dual exhibition.

"The Messes represent the best of contemporary art and craft here in Maine," says Center for Maine Contemporary Art director Suzette McAvoy, "living a full professional and family life and making work they believe in." Read more about Kate and Jonathan's work and life together in the current issue of Down East Magazine, "Making Art, Making a Life," written by Edgar Allen Beem and photographed by Molly Haley.

Alliance

Two-person Exhibition with Kate Furman
June 22 - July 22, 2017
Opening Reception: June 22, 2017, 6-8 PM

Alliance is defined as a relationship based on an affinity in interests or qualities.  The artists selected for Alliance both have a relationship to nature as inspiration.  They respond to and capture their investigations in distinctly unique works of art jewelry.

Kate Furman collects the cast off flora that covers the South Carolina wilderness.  “I aim to highlight undulations and ornate subtleties.  The presence of my work serves as a sketchbook of where I have been and what I have seen.”

One thousand miles away on the coast of Maine, Kate Mess observes the natural moments of wonder crafted by the elements.  “I revel in the splendor offered throughout the seasons, the opportunities to escape to untouched paradises. My studio work often responds to these observations of my life, my environment, and my medium itself.”
